Dr. B.K. Rana is the Deputy Director of National Accreditation Board for Hospitals & Healthcare Providers (NABH), Quality Council of India. He is elected Vice- Chairman of the prestigious Accreditation Council of International Society for Quality in Health Care (ISQua). He has played a key role in establishing Asian Society for Quality in Healthcare (ASQua). He is a Board member of ASQua as well as Chairman of its Technical Committee. He is a member of European Pathway Association. Dr. Rana has been appointed as Adviser by Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI), USA. He is ISQua Accreditation Council nominee to WHO International Steering Committee for Patient Safety Solutions. He also serves as ISQua Lead Surveyor under its International Accreditation Program. He is on Advisory Board of Medical Tourism Association, USA. He is Adviser to National Referral Centre for Lead Poisoning in India (NRCLPI). Dr. Rana was awarded with ISQua International Conference Scholarship for 2006 to attend the 23rd ISQua conference at London in October, 2006. He is life member of Association of Clinical Biochemists of India (ACBI) and Indian Society of Blood Transfusion and Immunohaematology (ISBTI). He was appointed External Consultant by World Health Organization to help setting up hospital accreditation system in Nepal. He is an Expert for Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) of United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCC). He is Member of Technical Committee of National GLP Compliance Monitoring Authority of India, Department of Science & Technology, Government of India.

Prior to his career at NABH, Dr. B.K. Rana served as Accreditation Officer and Manager-Proficiency Testing at National Accreditation Board for Testing & Calibration Laboratories (NABL) from 1999 to 2006. He is the first Indian expert on medical laboratory accreditation as per ISO 15189 and has been the International Expert of Asia Pacific Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (APLAC).

Dr. Rana began his career as Scientist at Vimta Labs Limited, Hyderabad and had a short stint as Post Doc Fellow at Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology, Hyderabad.

Dr. Rana did his Ph.D in Biochemistry from Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi, India. He did his Masters in Environmental Sciences with specialization in Microbiology from G.B. Pant University of Agriculture & Technology, Pantnagar, India. He has also completed an U.G. Diploma in German from Banaras Hindu University. He has published eight research papers in international journals and attended several scientific conferences and symposia.
