| About Quality Council of India |

QCI was set up in 1997 as an autonomous body by the Government of India jointly with the Indian industry to establish and operate the National Accreditation Structure for conformity assessment bodies. Indian industry is represented in QCI by three premier industry associations ASSOCHAM, CII and FICCI, QCI is also assigned the task of monitoring and administering the National Quality Campaign and to oversee effective functioning of the National Information and Enquiry Services.
To realise the objective of improving quality competitiveness of Indian products and services, QCI provides strategic direction to the quality movement in the country by establishing recognition of India conformity assessment system at the international level. |

QCI has just completed 11 years (1997-2008) in service of nation. QCI was set up to establish and operate national accreditation structure. Accreditation facilitates international trade, by way of establishing equivalence and global acceptance of Certification, Inspection and Testing being undertaken by various conformity assessment bodies, in the areas of Quality, Environment, Food Safety etc.
Other important task assigned to QCI has been to promote by enabling manufacturers and suppliers of goods/services to apply quality standards and tools and simultaneously empowering consumers to demand quality goods/services. The promotion of Quality encompasses all segments including Manufacturing, Health, Education and Public Services. QCI has embarked upon the role in facilitating implementation of regulation using conformity assessment infrastructure, with a view to bring in competency, objectivity and transparency.
President of India while inaugurating 2nd National Quality Conclave summed up his address by saying----“In essence QCI must become an organization serving one billion people of country --------” This is highest level of motivation for QCI and Quality Professionals. We commit ourselves in facilitating & administering quality in the national perspective. |
